Many concrete predictions are obsolete or inaccurate, and the section should not be mined for prophecy points. Ellul's purpose is rhetorical: promised technical solutions presume intensified organization and human adjustment. Even abundance may increase dependence on systems ordinary people cannot understand or direct.

The ending withholds a program. Any universal technical fix would reproduce the problem by offering one best method of liberation. The strongest criticism is determinism. Claims of autonomy and necessity can make resistance conceptually impossible. Historical research in science and technology studies shows that artifacts and systems are shaped by politics, users, regulation, social movements, and contingency. Ellul's critique does not justify refusing effective medicine, accessibility tools, or safety engineering. The relevant question is whether a method serves a deliberated human end under accountable control.
